Our Story

Friends For Downers Grove Township Seniors (FFDGTS)  was established as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit in 2013.  The  organization  seeks monetary donations, contributions and grants to support  services for older adults living in the township community. Our tireless fundraising activities have allowed us to provide critical support to the Downers Grove Township Center and the Senior programs.

Our first goal provided monetary support for the township Dial-A-Ride program, a senior and disabled transportation service provided by the Township through a contract with PACE. This goal was achieved, and brought the cost of   service to an affordable $3 each way.

In 2019 we launched our Senior Survival Skills Seminars, a series of events with the goal of making seniors more informed about an array of subjects, and identifying resources which can help make life more manageable.

We were able to contribute over $35,000 dollars to outfit the new Township Center with all of the tables and chairs, flatscreen televisions, professional grade refrigerators, stainless steel work services, and warming tables that are used for food preparation and serving at the Center Tuesday through Thursday each week. We were even able to provide a professional grade Ping Pong table that has become a frequently used favorite fixture at the Center!  Our programming continues to grow and attendance is expanding for all of our events. As our senior population expands, services are needed more than ever before with the last of the baby boomers coming of age by 2030.
